Our time in El Paso is the backbone of this project. Getting to El Paso is the first step in making this project come to life. That's why the Research & Development section is the largest amount.

Travel

Laura and Katherine will fly to to Chantelle's hometown - Houston. Together the three of them will drive down to El Paso to kickstart the project.

• Collaborators: These are the storytellers, the heart of our project. They are the people who are willing to be vulnerable and share their story with all of us. We plan to gift a copy of the book to each collaborator as an acknowledgement of their courage and openness. However, we are aware that some collaborators will have immediate needs that need to be addressed: food, clothing, shelter, etc. And we hope to use this money to find the best way to cover some of these needs as well. We will be updating you throughout this process!

• Partner/Organizations: These are people and organizations that are intrinsic to the El Paso community who are housing us, supporting us, and opening doors for us. They are our leaders to discover the truth of border life. We hope to take them out for dinner as a thank you, or donate different goods and services as gesture of appreciation.

2. PROPOSAL PRODUCTION: $300 

Based on our research and conversations with industry professionals in the publishing sector, we have decided to strive to publish our book through a small press. In fact, we are already in talks with one. It is vital to us that we have creative freedom throughout the stages of the book creation process, and that is why we have chosen to take this route. As we continue to to explore our options, these funds will go towards the creation of our proposal in search to partner with the best small press for this project.

3. POST-PRODUCTION & DISTRIBUTION: $335

Partnering with a small-press comes with with potential responsibilities and costs that we would have to cover. For the most part, the weight of marketing will fall on us - the creators. The marketing budget will allow us to fulfill some of the creative marketing ideas that we know you´ll love.

Your support in helping us reach our goal means everything. The budget outlined above will help us with the bare essentials to complete this project, and get it out in the world. We have dreams for more, so if you would like to help us reach those goals, this is how.

1st Tier: $2,968: This is our initial goal. This will allow us to cover the essentials to make this project happen.

2nd Tier: $4,000: As activists, we are no strangers to the impact of burnout on the quality of our work, and our emotional stability. We believe in the importance of balance in doing this kind of work, or any work for that matter. Although we know sometimes there is no option for balance, we strive to find small ways to incorporate into our projects. Since we have taken time off work to develop this project, this level would allow us & contributors to get compensated.

3rd Tier: $4,000+: Just like we had a vision for this photo-memoir, we have a vision for a small company that would create similar projects for the empowerment of Latinxs and immigrant stories. If you would like to see work such as this one, help us reach this goal!
